Ultra Capacitors to Replace Batteries

The popular development in science technology has come with a great scoop that we have been waiting for ages. The ultra capacitors which are completely ignored by most of the audio companies have been slowly continuing to develop in small universities and companies all over the world. The main reason why they have been largely shunned is that they hold very less energy other than batteries. The best available commercial ultracaps would offer nearly 5 percent of the energy density of the battery.

However, they also have various other advantages. These ultra capacitors can be charged up to their full without damaging them (as lithium Ion battery would not function when fully charged). These capacitors do not include any chemical elements and they are thermally stable in any condition. Apart from this you can also charge them and discharge them easily and fast as compared to batteries. The Popular Science had recently visited MIT to work on advanced vehicle technologies. Among the technologies the Nano-tube ultra capacitor could potentially hold half the amount of charge of a lithium ion battery. In addition to this it is a lot cooler. Also most batteries in hybrid cars hardly use more than 20 percent of their charge to extend the life of the battery. Hence, 80 percent of the battery just remains idle without getting discharged. However, ultra capacitors can be discharged completely again and again and they do not have to be replaced.
