Philips’ New Eco-TV

This new 42 inch LCD eco TV designed by Philips had been announced at CES (consumer electronics show) in 2008. This eco friendly television certainly includes a lot of energy saving features which possibly makes it the most efficient TV in the market. The Eco TV has the ability to dim the backlight of the LCD with up to five times peak brightness with response to the program material. This dimming of backlight in darker scenes has the dual benefit of improving the back level performance and saving the power, according to the manufacturing company. The backlight can also be dimmed through the room lighting sensor and so in a darker room the Eco TV would use even much less power. There is also the traditional power saving mode which caps the peak light output of the television.

With the included trifecta technology you will find the power consumption of the panel that would dip down to a remarkable 75 watts when in the booth demo. There is a bit more than the 4 standard glowing light bulb and has 30 watts less than most of the 42 inch LCD televisions that have been so far tested. The standby power of the Eco TV is also less than 0.15 watts according to Philips. Including all these features, the television would still consume just 75 watts of power. The company has used a ‘Kill a Watt’ device into the LCD to show the journalists that it surely is a green television.
