Mobion direct methanol fuel cell has been developed by MTI MicroFuel Cells which is a new technology for all your portable electronic devices. This device is the first in the series of planned deliveries that results from the grouping formed between Samsung and MTI Micro in May 2006. These two companies are discovering new ways to potentially power a series of Samsung mobile phones with other phone accessories with the fuel cell technology so that new rich media features can be added to their device.

Peng Lim the CEO of MTI Micro Fuel Cells said that in the next cell phone generation they would include mobile phone satellite TV, 3D gaming, streaming video and other multimedia features which would give the consumer even more power. The customary power sources like the lithium-ion batteries would not keep up with the OEM desires to include these rich media features in the consumer electronic gadgets. The MTI Micro congratulates Samsung for leading the charge to invent better power sources like the fuel cells for cell phones and cell phones accessories.

According to the reports of Frost & Sullivan the markets for the fuel cells for consumer electronics gadgets would reach around 80 million units by the end of 2012. The partnership of the two companies and the prototype delivery is a significant step towards using methanol fuel cell commercialization. The two companies are working together to evaluate, test and develop Mobion prototypes for a number of cell phone applications. Samsung continues to include their resources into this joint effort which would help in determining the best approach to power the rich featured devices of the next generation.
